Why Your Socks Are Important Too!

Underneath any good pair of Rossi Boots should be an even better pair of socks. If we really want to be honest with ourselves, any boot or shoe is only as comfortable as the sock that lies between it and your foot.

At Rossi Canada we recommend wearing a pair of Duray heritage wool work socks. Duray is a Canadian company that has been making authentic wool socks since 1939. Duray specializes in crafting woollen products. So making soft, cushy socks with a rustic knit, perfect for Canadian harsh winters is what they're good at. Canadian made, these classic heritage crew length wool socks are strong and durable thanks to the dual twisted yarn they are made of. These wool work socks are soft, stretchy and made with a blend of Duray homespun woolen yarn and Merino wool yarn.

So what's the big deal about socks made of wool?

Wool is the ideal material to lay against your skin because it is biodegradable, renewable, breathable and very versatile. It doesn’t cling to your skin, and can be stretched by up to 40% its original size only to bounce back to its normal shape. That is good news for your feet because socks that don't stay stretched means no wrinkles inside your boots.

Duray uses pure virgin wool almost exclusively. That means it's a pure wool fibre that has not been recycled from other productions. The two main types of wool that Duray makes their high quality work socks from are lambswool and Merino wool. Lambswool is fine and silky. It's a shiny fibre that comes from a baby lamb’s initial shearing. Merino wool comes from a special breed of sheep. Merino wool is softer than most other types of wool because the diameter of the fibres are thinner and finer than other types of wool.

Here's another great thing about wearing wool on your feet. Clothes don’t create heat, but your bodies does. The more warm air that is trapped and circulating inside your wool sock, the better the sock’s resistance is to the cold. However, the knit sock also has to breathe in order to eliminate moisture. The good news is that wool is the only textile that offers this thermal balance between protection and moisture control. Rossi Boots Canada is part of a Canadian family run business, The Brown Bear. We support Duray's efforts to step into Canadian tradition with a superior pair of work socks. Similar to The Brown Bear, Duray, is a family run business and a source of local pride. They have been making socks for over 75 years and their product, the authentic woollen sock, is the result of learning and perfecting their product for over three generations of know how.
